# checks_list_for_ref

> List the check runs reported against a commit, branch or tag — every CI provider that reports as a GitHub App, Actions included. `ref` takes a SHA, 'heads/BRANCH' or 'tags/TAG'. The `status` filter takes a status only: a failure is `status: completed` plus a `conclusion` of 'failure'.

<div className="tool-route"><span className="tool-row-method" data-method="GET">GET</span><code>{"https://api.github.com/repos/{owner}/{repo}/commits/{ref}/check-runs"}</code></div>

```python github_checks_list_for_ref.py theme={null}
from charter.packs import github
result = await github.checks_list_for_ref.ainvoke({"owner": ..., "repo": ..., "ref": ...})
```

<Note>
  Requires `repo`, `read:user`. Pages by number: `page` with `per_page`.

  | `filter` | [JobFilter](/charter/charter/packs/github/actions/objects#jobfilter) | Filters check runs by their `completed_at` timestamp. `latest` returns the most recent check runs. GitHub uses `latest` when this is absent. |
  | `appId` | `integer` | Only check runs reported by this GitHub App. GitHub Actions is itself an App, so this is how a repository with several CI providers is narrowed to one. |
